I dont know whether it amuses me or makes me sad when I see people (especialy Christians) trying to operate in authority while completley lacking the power to back it up.
The perfect illustration...
The Power of a Badge... DEA officer stops at a ranch in Texas , and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher says, "Okay , but do not go in that field over there," as he points out the location.
The DEA officer verbally explodes saying, " Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me." Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the rancher. "See this badge? This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land. No questions asked or answers given. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand? " The rancher nods politely, apologizes, and goes about his chores.
A short time later, the old rancher hears loud screams and sees the DEA officer running for his life chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull... With every step the bull is gaining ground on the officer, and it seems likely that he'll get gored before he reaches safety. The officer is clearly terrified. The rancher throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs..... |

It’s OK to Smile
"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength."
Proverbs 17:22
There are times in our lives when everything just goes wrong. It doesn’t matter what you do or try to do things just don’t work. Now sometimes the things that happen to us are our own fault, but there are also times when the things that happened to us have nothing to do with anything we did or didn’t do. These are probably the hardest times because in those situations we don’t even have the opportunity to look back and say if I had done…
A lot of people say that this verse in Proverbs is talking about mending a broken heart or when someone has had an emotional loss and a cheerful heart acts like a medicine that helps to heal the emotional wounds. If you look of the second half of the verse where it says broken spirit that would be an easy conclusion to come to. Now I’m not going to sit here and tell you that that’s the wrong conclusion because in many circumstances it's absolutely the right conclusion. Instead I wnat to look at this verse a bit backwards.

Is it possible to disagree with an idea but respect to the person? I recently heard a story about a man named Francis Schaeffer, and the thing that stood out to me was what he would ask his people to pray for him before he would go to talk to people.
He said, “I want to disagree with the ideas while simultaneously respecting the man.” He said his goal in going to debates was to challenge their ideas but at the end for them to feel so welcomed by him as a human being that they could have dinner and it not be weird.
How many of us can actually say this is how we live our lives and how we treat other people?
This would be the epitome of self confidence while at the same time demonstrating ultimate humility. We’re a look around the world and people today I understand why it is so difficult for us to live by the seemingly simple concept. Our entire lives we are taught to be competitive in to win.

Do you believe in God? Do you believe there is a God? What God do you believe in?
I believe in God. I believe there is a God that created and watches over His creation. I believe in the God of the Bible.
I believe God sent His only son to pay a debt I could not. I believe that Son, Jesus paid that price and did what no man could… redeem the world from the debt of sin.

A novel Idea
Brothers and sisters I have a "novel" for you, and it all relates back to a commercial I heard on the radio.
Times being financially tuff is honestly no new thing and frankly neither is the "novel idea" I have for you. Let's be honest there is always someone somewhere on the brink of financial disaster. Sometimes it is the result of everything going the wrong way at the same time and throwing us into a major sideways slide that leaves us shaking our heads in bewilderment. Usually though the financial mess we find ourselves in relates more to our own "brilliant" decisions and gotta have it now mentality.
Now here is my "novel idea"... if you can't afford it don't buy it. I you cannot pay cash for it, don't buy it.
I know that is such a shocking concept in our gotta have it now credit happy world, but people survived and thrived for generations before us on that very principle of life. Let me step on those greedy little toes for a second. Wanting something is not the same as needing something. You may want a 60 inch flat screen TV, but you need to buy clothes for your kids. |
